The picture above explains so much about what I am going to talk about. I am going to talk about The Rise of Insignificant Class. I don’t want to explain what it means, so you have to conclude it by yourself. Imagine when you were a child, someone asked you what do you want to be when you grow up? And you said that you want to be a doctor. So, the time goes by, you became a teenager studying at high school and decided to went into the most prestigious university in your country. You get accepted, you studied there, and eventually, you graduated from the university, that was a very happy moment.
Next, you find a job to become a real doctor, you went to many hospitals, but something had happened that no one hospital accepted you because the hospital has been occupied by robots or artificial intelligence doctors. And this case might be true in the near future when a groundbreaking event happened in 2016 in China. China is the country that has 1,4 billion people, 5 times more than Indonesia. On 2016, there was a company who developed an Artificial Intelligence Doctor named Biomind, a machine that could mimic the way doctor diagnoses a disease. This event tried to conduct a battle between Biomind against 14 elite doctors in China.
They give 225 cases to two groups. The battle was very intense until the mind-blowing result has been announced. The result was Biomind has greater accuracy, to be exact 87% than 14 doctors who have 66% accuracy. That was the thing that happened in 2016, on yesterday. In the near future, artificial intelligence doctors may soon exist to replace doctors. We have considered the example of how technology will disrupt the field of healthcare. Let us think about the financial field. With the emergence of blockchain technology, the bank soon will vanish. How about the transportation field? The driverless car is now going trial, so soon there are no courier, pilot, machinist, etc.
Even if you’re not going to be anyone. Just being a society, big data technology soon will exploit your data, then you have no right. The 85% of the jobs in 2030 don’t exist today, that is what Dell and the Institute for the Future said. Whatever you are in the future, beware. Consider what has been said in the table. You can look at the very bottom which said that, in the future, there is a 94% probability of couriers and messengers will be replaced by automation. Really? To me the probability is true. But it’s not what will happen in the future, or in the near future, but already happened yesterday. This was a video of how Amazon, the biggest e-commerce has done at Seattle in March 2019.
This is the social pyramid. The picture that could visualize a pattern of wealth distribution in a society. After the 1st industrial revolution, which is happening in the 18th century, society is consist of lower, middle, and upper classes. The lower is laborer and peasant. We are in the middle class. Upper is a billionaire. The upper top is the super-rich. The elite who owns 50% total wealth of the world. Where we want to describe the pattern of society in the future, what would it be like? It turns out that the middle class will be reduced at a point of 10%. The elite will be consists of a few people. The rest of society will be in this class. The class where they face the irrelevance of the future conditions that are unemployment will be high, inequality is more dramatic, and technological disruption is inevitable.
Do you know what does it mean? Silicon Valley Supremacy is the condition when a big tech company has greater power than a country. This is the elite in the future will be like. Consider this. GDP Indonesia in 2018 was 1000 B USD when Amazon GTV was 258 B USD, around ¼ times than Indonesia’s GDP. This gives an example of how big they are to control the resource and the economy of the future. They are what we will regard as the next elite. My conclusion is that we have to aware of what kind of impact the technology could give to our job or condition in the future. If we ignore the technology, then the technology will make us irrelevant.
